Finding My Way Back to Travel
For years, I’ve dreamed of becoming a travel agent. Exploring new places has always been a passion of mine—something that’s been with me since childhood.
I began my professional journey as a teacher. Helping others, especially kids, felt like a natural calling. That path eventually led me to school counseling, where I discovered my love for truly connecting with people and guiding students in finding their own passions. But life, as it does, shifted. Family needs and systemic challenges led me to step away from education.
Fast forward—two kids later—I found myself searching for a new purpose. That’s when I remembered my first love: travel.
Becoming a travel agent felt like the perfect fit. A flexible schedule, researching amazing destinations, and most importantly—connecting with people to help them build adventures of their own? Yes, please.
Then came Wondermakers. A friend casually said, “I wish you could join my agency,” and I responded, “Tell me more.” The rest is history.
What I’ve Learned So Far
1. It’s not just Googling hotels.
Being a travel agent means curating trips that meet specific needs and dreams. It’s not as simple as, “I want to go to England.” Everyone envisions a perfect vacation, and my job is to bring that vision to life—down to the smallest detail.
2. The perks are real—but it’s still work.
I have my first FAM (familiarization) trip coming up next month, and I couldn’t be more excited! While visiting amazing places is part of the job, it’s not a vacation. You’re creating content, building knowledge, and gathering firsthand experience to better serve your clients. A great travel agent isn’t just passionate—they’ve been there.
3. Not every agency is the same.
I truly lucked out with my parent company. The travel industry can be fiercely competitive, but I’ve found a team that genuinely supports one another. We celebrate each other’s wins, help each other through challenges, and genuinely love what we do. I’m still new to the “Ohana,” but I already feel like I’ve found my place.
What to Expect From This Blog
Let’s be honest—you can Google thousands of travel tips. And yes, many are super helpful (there’s a reason they’re out there). But this blog is different.
Here, I want to share what worked, what didn’t, and what’s happening right now in the world of travel. This space will be about real experiences, honest advice, and lessons from someone who’s walked the walk. My goal is to help you plan not just trips, but unforgettable adventures—ones rooted in authenticity and experience.
